TERIX DRIVES DOWN HIGH COST OF SF12/ SF15K SUPPORT
Pricing starting at 40% below Sun frees 12K and 15K server market to choose.

– FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

Santa Clara, CA – February 24, 2005 – In another bold, new initiative designed to lower the cost of high-end server maintenance, “Terix Computer Service now provides on-site support nationwide for Sun Microsystems’ (SUNW - NASDAQ) Sunfire 12K and 15K servers,” says Terix President and CEO Bernd Appleby. “Our 12K and 15K program provides customers with support alternatives for enterprise-wide servers used for large scale, mission-critical applications including server consolidation, high-performance computing, data warehousing and decision support. For a limited time, Terix pricing starts at 40 percent under Sun’s.”

Very few third-party maintenance companies have supported the Sun high-end server market. As a result, 12K and 15K users have been “handcuffed” to Sun; forced to rely on the OEM for service despite the high cost. Terix is attacking Sun’s high-end server market head-on at a time when many companies are looking for service and maintenance alternatives in an effort to conserve IT budget dollars. Not only will the Terix initiative reduce the cost of service contracts, but Terix offers a wider choice than Sun of support offerings tailored to each customer’s individual IT requirements.

“Up until now, there’s been a lack of credible alternatives in the 12K and 15K server support market,” says Jim Olding, Terix Executive Vice President. “Without many options for high-end service, customers have been forced to stay with the Sun at great expense.

“Terix’s new 12K and 15K program is all about providing customers with quality, viable alternatives,” adds Olding. “More and more, in today’s challenging economic times where IT budgets are being severely compressed, customers are turning to Terix without compromising service quality. The Terix alternative to Sun support is gaining converts throughout the UNIX community as evidenced by the company’s record revenues in 2004.”

Olding notes that the high-end 12K and 15K support market has been closed to third-party maintainers because of its extremely high cost of entry, high technical demands and Sun’s ferocious protection of its installed base.

The new 12K and 15K program significantly expands Terix’s service capability and positions the company as a strong third-party maintenance provider in the high-end server market. “We’ve elevated third-party service to the next level by providing a major benefit for our customers and the entire 12K and 15K market,” Appleby said. “With the 12K and 15K program, Terix now supports the entire family of Sun hardware – high-end servers as well as mid-range, entry-level systems. This also includes training, installations and 7x24x365 support contracts. And, by delivering better service and better value than the OEM, we help customers get more mileage from their IT budgets.”

Adds Olding, “We developed our 12K and 15K support program to satisfy the demanding requirements of high-end users including 7x24x365 service, 2-hour response, Solaris™ OS support, and on-site parts inventory. It includes the technical competency to deliver on the 12K and 15K’s complex attributes. We invested in 12K and 15K training for engineers and help desk personnel, made significant purchases of inventory to support the 12K and 15K, and offer some services Sun does not.”

Terix is now offering program pricing starting at 40% less than Sun. E-mail sales@terix.com for more information.
